Psalm 138:8 "The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me."
Written by Monica Brislawn, Director of Women's Ministries of Calvary Church of Santa Ana
In Psalm 138 David makes the sweetest declaration, "The Lord will accomplish what concerns me." David acknowledges that God had the desire and was able to do anything to carry out His purposes in his life.
How was David able to acknowledge such a wonderful thing? In the previous verse he says, "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will keep me alive. You will stretch forth Your hand against the anger of my enemies and Your right hand will save me." In the midst of trouble, in the midst of bad circumstances, what does David focus on? That's right - God's hand! David knows it is not something in himself that will accomplish God's purposes for him - he knows it is God alone. It is God's "right hand."
Dear friend, do you wonder how God's purposes are going to be accomplished in your life? Perhaps you are in an extremely sticky situation right now. It may be such a complicated mess you don't know what to do. Whether this was of your own doing or not, you just want out! Or maybe you see no way out of a sin that has enslaved you for years. Or perhaps you think God has called you to something but don't see how it will be pulled off. What should you do in these circumstances beyond your control? Follow David's example - don't look to yourself. Put your confidence in Him. In these impossible situations in which the circumstances are too big for you, don't worry about doing anything.
The Lord is not wondering when you are going to finally figure it out. The Lord is aware that you cannot fix this situation yourself. The Lord is not waiting upon you to get your act together. He knows you are not able. His timing is perfect and only He can arrange the deliverance and circumstances on your behalf. Just place your confidence in Him. You may say, "But I don't even have the confidence I need to put my confidence in God!" No problem! He can handle that too!
So what is the result of our focus on God's right hand? A heart of praise! David says, "I will give thanks to Thee with all my heart; I will sing praises to Thee and give thanks to Thy name." Throughout this Psalm, David is aware of God's loving kindness and power. He is aware of the nearness of His God.
Don't worry about those impossible situations - you can't fix it anyway, otherwise you would have done so a long time ago! Who are you looking at today? Yourself or your heavenly Father? Look to His right hand and when you do your heart will praise God.
